Lawrence earned his law degree at the University of Maine School of Law. After his service in the Senate, her served as York County Attorney and now practices law and resides in South Berwick with his family. ==Maine House== Lawrence served two terms as a member of the Maine State House of Representatives. Since entering the political arena, Senator Lawrence has walked a distance equal to five times the length of the State of Maine visiting over 35,000 homes in the districts he has represented. During his tenure in the legislature, Lawrence worked as an advocate in conjunction with Maine's congressional delegation to protect the future of the U.S. Naval Shipyard in Kittery. ==Maine Senate== Senator Lawrence helped establish the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve and is a founding member of the Laudhom Trust in Wells. He has served on the Maine-New Hampshire Border Commission and the Commission on Public Financing of Elections. He has also served as a director of the Kittery Land Trust and as a trustee of the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum. ===President of the Maine Senate=== Mark W. Lawrence was elected to a second term as President of the Maine Senate on December 2, 1998.
